We ask for one thing on this website: your email address, and only if you type it into the Notify me form. We use it for a confirmation email and one email when the app is out. We don’t sell it, show ads, or use tracking cookies. Our host may keep basic server logs for security.
Who runs this website
Talewell and this website are run by Pavel Belov, [SLOT: postal address]. In this notice, “we” and “us” mean Pavel Belov. For any question about your data, email hello@talewell.app.
What we collect
Only what you type into the Notify me form: your email address. The form has no other fields, and you don’t need an account to use this website.
With your email, the form also sends two small details: the page you signed up on and the language of the site. They show us which pages bring people to the list, and we use them for nothing else.
The level test and the other tools on this site run in your browser. Your answers are not sent anywhere. Your browser does keep a few settings on your device; see “In your browser” below.
In your browser
To make the site easier to use, it keeps a few small settings in your browser’s own storage. They stay on your device. They are never sent to us or to anyone else, and we can’t see them. What the site keeps:
- your level, if you take the level test or pick a level tab, so texts and episodes can open at your level
- your latest test result, until you close the tab
- whether the English translation is switched on in texts
- the speed, the text mode and the “pause after each line” choice of the podcast player, and where you stopped in an episode
- which version of the dialogues you picked, Spain or Mexico
- whether you have already seen the tip about tapping a word
None of this is used for tracking or ads. To clear it, delete this site’s data in your browser settings (look for “Clear site data” or “Cookies and site data”). The site then forgets it and works as before.
Why we use your email
To send you two emails: a confirmation email right after you sign up, and one email when the app is out. We email you only because you asked us to, and you can change your mind at any time. No newsletters, no offers, nothing else.
Where your email is kept
We pass your address to Brevo, an email service based in the EU. Brevo stores it so it can send these emails for us. First it sends you a confirmation email: you’re on the list only after you click the link inside. If you don’t click it, you won’t hear from us again.
How long we keep it
Until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Every email we send has an unsubscribe link.
No selling, no ads, no tracking
We don’t sell your email or give it to anyone else, apart from Brevo, which sends the emails for us. We don’t show ads. This website doesn’t use cookies to track you or to show ads, and it loads no scripts, fonts, or images from other companies.
Analytics
None at the moment. This website has no analytics tool and no visitor counter, and it doesn’t record what you click. If we add a privacy-friendly counter later, we’ll say so on this page first.
Server logs
This website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like most web hosts, Cloudflare may record IP addresses in its server logs to keep the site secure and working. We don’t use these logs to find out who you are.
Your rights
You can ask us at any time to show you the email we keep, to correct it, or to delete it. You can also withdraw your consent: unsubscribe, or just tell us.
If you live in the EU or the UK, the GDPR (the data protection law there) gives you these rights, and also the right to get your data in a form you can take elsewhere, to object to how we use it, and to complain to your local data protection authority. If you live in California, the CCPA (the state’s privacy law) gives you the right to know what we collect, to have it corrected or deleted, and to be treated the same when you use these rights. We don’t sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of.
How to ask
Email hello@talewell.app from the address you signed up with, and tell us what you’d like us to do. We’ll reply within one month. If you write from a different address, we may ask you to confirm from the one on our list, so nobody else can change your data.
Children
This website and the Notify me form are not for children under 16. If you’re under 16, please don’t sign up. If we learn that someone under 16 gave us their email, we’ll delete it.
Changes to this notice
When we change this notice, we update the date at the top of this page. If we ever want to collect something new, such as a visitor counter, we’ll change this page before we start.
